SPBL Ikaalinen 2011 – a tough start for the season

It’s already been a month after the first leg of the SPBL Finnish Championship League, sorry about that – we had a bit of a landscaping project after the tournament, and a sudden outbreak of summer weather made dating a laptop the last in line for things to do..  Still a day left before the second tournament though!

Coming into the season 2011 after winning the championship last year, we knew there was no easy ride to victory as we would be the ones to beat this season. We did a punishing (but voluntary) physical fitness program over the winter months – many of the guys lost quite a bit of weight and gained endurance. Meanwhile, the SPBL Finnish league will start next weekend in Ikaalinen, and we’re STOKED!

Victorious at last!

Five years.

That’s a long time by any standard. For a team that has been almost completely rebuilt and then nourished in the shadow of past success, it’s a long time to struggle for those rare rays of light. Already at the end of last season we felt that we are definitely on the right path, and the team headed into the off-season with a clear goal to make the last push to the top.  A lot of hard work has been put in, the countless hours of practises have finally started to pay dividends. Helsinki Cyclone won again.

On the way to Ikaalinen

So, the first weekend of the Finnish National League is here, and we are litterally on the way.. In Helsinki the weather was nice when we set off, we’ll have to wait 60km to see what it’s like in Ikaalinen. So far, It’s a bit overcast but hopes for tomorrow are quite nice.. Hopefully it’ll be as nice as it was outside the terrace of Weeruska in Helsinki.
