Millennium Basildon 2010 – Friday

Today was a day of mixed feelings. We got to the site a bit before midday, and the place was hot already with quite a bit of moisture in the air, sucking a lot of energy off the players. We had no bigger issues as we had a proper pile of water, fruits and sports drinks to keep us going for the couple of games we had scheduled.

Millennium London Schedule

Our first game will be against Spartans Athens at 14:30 GMT.

Next 16:30 against 7ene Compagnie Nancy.

Last Prelim will be in Caturday 14:00 against our friends Amsterdam Sabotage 2.

It’s a pity that the Div 1. is only a shadow of it’s former self. Playing against the same teams is a bit boring.Bonus side for this is that you get to know your opponents better: Do they play aggressive or defensive, if they have starplayers, how good their aim is, etc. The other thing to keep in mind is that often the roster of a team can change drastically between tournaments. At least ours has. We have about 12 persons on the active European tournament roster and those are seeded to play tournaments according to free time/money/performance. Good thing about this is that we are more unpredictable. Down side in this is that, because Paintball as a team sport on our level demands that you know the playing styles of your field mates intimately, the optimal mix of styles are not always achieved. I feel that in London we have a great team on site and expect results to confirm this. So you better step up boys!

Hopefully our guys will fill our hungry minds with results and thoughts here or in Facebook

Victorious at last!

Five years.

That’s a long time by any standard. For a team that has been almost completely rebuilt and then nourished in the shadow of past success, it’s a long time to struggle for those rare rays of light. Already at the end of last season we felt that we are definitely on the right path, and the team headed into the off-season with a clear goal to make the last push to the top.  A lot of hard work has been put in, the countless hours of practises have finally started to pay dividends. Helsinki Cyclone won again.

Millennium Series London layout published

The Millennium Series has published the field layout for the 2010 Millennium London in Basildon. The field can be described unconventional at minimum, it will be interesting to see how the field plays. The “M” has been moved to 1/3 position length-wise, and there is no actual “dorito side”, as the doritos have been laid center-field. Both tapes also have bits of the snake. It seems that the field designers have been a bit sloppy as they seem to be missing a MD from the right side of the field, just below the centerline.. An updated layout is to be expected. See the layout below:

Bitburg report Sponsored by Bitte ein Bit

So that tournament went quickly for us.
On thursday we played 3 games. First against Empire Venice. The game went through in tides with both teams leading. Unfortunately our end game was not good enough. That actually set the tone for the weekend.  Although we lost the game we went through to quarterfinals with best possible ED points (like goal-diference in hockey) with one win. Lleida was against us in the second game. They stayed in their break bunkers and shot their lines full. We got no control of the game and lost to better of us at 4-1.  That was the net sum of our virtual visit to sunny beaches of Malaga.

First report from Bitburg

I just got a report from Bitburg so here goes…

The third game of Malaga was played this morning against Empire Venice. As expected it was a tight one. Cyclone managed to score the first points taking the game to 2-0 but after regrouping the Empire boys tied the game to 2-2 plus took the next point to 2-3. Cyclone tied the game again to 3-3. Empire managed to get a great break to the last point and took the win 3-4.

It seems that our guys are going to have game packed weekend since although they lost their game they’re still going to go through to the “Sunday club”. The Malaga tournament had so few teams that actually got there that an extra 6 teams go through to the last 16. Cyclone is one of them and their next game is against FiveStar Lleida. After that they’ll start the Bitburg tournament and play against FiveStar Lleida again but this time on a different field.

Tomorrows opponents are going to be the Danish Copenhagen Synergy and Dogs D Amour Thessaloniki from Greece.

Field Buildup in Bitburg

Currently I’m in Bitburg trying to find a intertube that I could steal for a minute (Internet cafes were a bit uncoperative).

Here are a few pics from the site. Sorry for the lousy focus, had a bit camera difficulties (am useless with it). The turf looks good and even, but I didn’t use a level… The trade show looks small, with the big Dye tent not there. Continue reading ‘Field Buildup in Bitburg’ »

Only two days to go

Millennium 2010 Bitburg is at hand and the anticipation is crushing…

First of all: After the Malaga event got canceled on Saturday, the last games on our group got moved to Bitburg and everything remained open.  Now the situation is, that Empire Venice has a firm grip on the preliminary win with their  two points. Both we and the Sugar Daddy’s have acquired one point before the last game, so if we both take wins, there will be three teams at two points and it’ll all be decided by the point differences. To go even further, if we should take the win with a landslide, we have a chance to win the preliminaries all together. Talk about pressure…

Malaga report: The long way home..

It might seem that this report is late on arrival but I assure you it is not. Because of  Pinatubo2 in Iceland our players have been arriving home during the weekend almost a week later then scheduled. Here’s what happened:
