Why did KEE buy Smart Parts’ patent portfolio?

Propaintball.com has received an email announcing KEE to have purchased the Smat Parts patent portfolio in its entirety. The brief email did not offer much insight to what KEE aims to do with the acquired immaterial property rights, but after the fall of Smart Parts the speculation around the company remains has been vivid to say the least. First off, the entire bankruptcy proceeding was a long-running “solid” rumor and finally materialized after the 2009 World cup.

Interview with Mikko Huttunen – DYE Snow and LA Ironmen

Over the winter we have been reading various rumors and bits of gossip about DYE branching into snow sports, but there hasn’t been too much concrete information. With the PSP season opener in Galveston, Texas showing Mikko Huttunen amiss from the Ironmen back line, we figured that something is really bubbling under. We contacted Mikko and discussed a lot of recent topics.

New HydroTec Demo Video

HydroTec has released a new test video clip showing the new balls in “action”. They are shooting at a transparent panel that does show the mark well. It appears to be roughly of the same size than a regular paintball, maybe a bit smaller and somehow “thinner”. What I would have liked to see is how the ball would react on impact to a more real-life target than the panel, a hopper, a mask and a jersey. Maybe they’ll post that in a later video. Anyway, given everything that HydroTec promises in terms of weatherproofness and stability, the balls do look quite promising. It’ would be nice to see them show the flight characteristics over a longer flight and the shot-to-shot consistency for a bit more insight.  A slight delay was again announced, though, so we’ll see if they’ll get the product on the market this spring as now promised, or will it take even longer? Hopefully not, I’d like to try them out!

Vegan Paintballing: No Cows Were Injured Making This Post

Lovingly stolen from Paintball.fi

Finally something “totally” new at Paintball Extravaganza!

Hydrotech introduces to the industry a new way to make Paintballs. Corn starch based capsule with 98 % water fill sounds like an orgy for us meatly challenged persons. We all have heard these marketing presentations, but this atleast sounds something which might totally change the game of Paintball. Please check the youtube clips at Paintball.fi.

I have few issues that weren’t  covered in presentation. What will cleaning barrel breakes be like? What will cleaning of clothing be between games; is it staining? What will the flight characteristics be? What will Cleaning bunkers be, at least the third clip showed that the dried film is quite hard. Also interesting to see how the gelatine-based industry will adapt to this new product. Ramp up to global market will propably be slow, so time table to our small island here in the Arctic will be in far future?

Greg Hastings’s got a brand new bag, out in stores soon

via Gamesradar

So Greg’s new game is comming out 29th September. No word for Euro release. The game looks ok by itself (I’ll come back to it shortly), but more interesting is the quote about Activi$ion. It allways makes a good news story, when mega-corps attack private entrepeneurs and that one quote got the attention of gameblogging sites like Kotaku. We see the situation from Hastings’s point of view only, and while it might be a as well a marketing trick , it’s allways nice to see the under dog win. Greg’s enthusiasm on the conference is alltogether a nice change to marketing-machine made presentations we are used to.

The game itself looks like a reiteration of the original. Screenshots show forest and concept and supair-ball with 7 to 10 man teams. In one shot you can see a huge x-bunker – might that mean that we’ll get to play 5-man xball’ish also? Graphics are as bad as expected with human meatpupets playing the parts of players. Woodsland gamings hasn’t interested me since we moved out of the woods to savannah in the early 00′s and the game engine doesn’t seem to support true sup-air game with un formable bunkers.

One thing that I’d like to see, as a good service the paintball community, would be to introduce the next PSP-NPPL-Millennium fields live through Console’s downloadable content for a few €. I for one, would like to play and walk the fields before hand from the comfort of home with a beer or two in the cooler. For that feature alone, I might even buy the game, even if it is bad. And could we have NHL like comentating done by Mr Marshall: “And the Game is on”.

As a gamer and paintballer it’s good to see both industries mix. Personally I will wait for the reviews before picking this one up.

Colorful opinions..

It seems that the new Dynasty jerseys that have just been released are dividing opinions on propaintball.com‘s facebook community:

Oliver Lang “The Italian Stallion”

Looks like Oliver decided his stay in France was overdue and it was time to visit Italy for some new flavours. I wonder if Olivers Italian would have sounded the same as French? Luckily Oliver decided not to do the presentation wearing speedos but going with more classic style.

Scream!

Yes! DYE is back with brand new red-black-gray colored NT called “Scream”. After hearing about DYE signing with SD Aftermath I would say that the deal has something to do with colouring the newest NT. In previous years we’ve seen Aftermath in red and black outfits with a little bit of gray so this gun would suit the team more than nicely. Anyways, call me what ever you want but I like these NT colors way more than I like the newest colors of Egos for example (actually I don’t like those bright colors at all).

Now its tough choice between Scream, Zombie Nation and Red Wave ;)

DYE Heads to Zombie Nation

DYE has added one new color to their expanding range of NT’s and the latest color is called “Zombie Nation”. It’s a cool combination of red and black and zombie images and it’s definitely one of the coolest guns on the market roght now!

Now I’m eager to see what else DYE is planning to do with their guns. Maybe we’ll see a couple of other intresting color combinations before the summer and maybe it’s more difficult for me to pick the weapon of choice for the season 2010 :)

Check out the Zombie Nation below:
