LiveLeague 2011:Oulu (#4)

Polar bears ahoy! Oulu is a former big technology center of Finland. Situated in the Gulf of Botnia, with Sub arctic weather. Both Finnish weather services promise atypically warm weekend, with temperature rising to low 20′s Centigrade. Hope they are also atypically acurate in their forecasts, because they’ve been lousy all summer. Ah, but don’t let me digress any more, you’re here for Finnish League round #4.

Last round. Last push of the season. With troublesome #3 round we are now tied in the first position with Trivoga. Dream Team also has a possibility of being Champions, but both Trivoga and We need to play really lousy. It will be interesting to see how the teams will cope with the different field design.

Liveleague and LiveBlog will continue with only League, sorry. Scores and standings after the break.

Justin Rabackoff goes through New Jersey performance

Social Paintball has been quick to get J-Rab’s interview online. It seems that the curse of the third tournament is also present at the pro level, and just like us, everything seemed ok up to the point when it was proven that it was not. I’m really pleased that Social Paintball did the interview and that J-Rab found the decency and sportsmanship to try and explain  the best he could.

Like said before, you should really subscribe to Social Paintball’s Youtube channel to stay in the loop!

LiveLeague 2011:Turku (#3)

After most of our team has had some summer holiday action in resorts around Europe, it is time for next Finnish league. Actually we are not in Turku, but in Piikkiö. A nice rural industrial area, where Dream Team has their field.

After two victories in earlier leagues we are coming to Turku with a strong training resume under our belt. Even with holiday season underway we continued with our standard 3-times-a week practice pulse. It was nice to see other teams also wanting to train with us and on Wednesday we played ~15 points with Dream Team on the league pitch. We were humbled by DT’s strong gun power and took only a few points during the evening. I am sure that we are now more pumped up, as we don’t want to repeat this on league-proper.

As standard we will be giving league scores point by point and Sundays Division 1 games game by game. Liveblogging is still under advisement but we will see what we can do.

League Round #2 Kirkkonummi, postmortem

Second league round is now behind us and What results! We took the league round by storm and division 1′s respectable second position was great advancement from the disappointment of the first round.

Saturday started with league and first matchup was Cyclone vs. Urho. Urho’s roster has changed quite a bit from last year and they ended last in SPBL’s first round. We started the game aggressive with pushing both sides of the field. We took the first point. In next point Urho shot our guys from the moves and Raffe was left alone in the snake. 1-1.  Point number three ended up to Cyclone with a 141 for Urho deciding the point. 20 seconds was enough to choose a victor for the fourth point with both sides of the field rampaged by our guys. You would think that this would have broken the back of Urho, but they mustered their players and quickly took next two points. Last point was again a quick point and we took a close 4-3 victory. Some of the loosing points were decided by penalties, which have been a problem point for us in the past. So in next games we needed to be more strict with our own eliminations.

SK Moscow videos from Millennium Bitburg 2011

SK Moscow have again really made an effort in getting high quality material of CPL games. Absolutely fantastic stuff, they seem to be getting more and more cameras to each event and the editing makes sure everything worth seeing is captured on tape. Memory card. Whatever. Great stuff anyway!

LiveLeague 2011:Kirkkonummi (#2)

Welcome to live scoring service for league round 2; sorry no bikini girls waiving a cardboard sign. Kirkkonummi, Finland, lays about 30 klicks west of Helsinki. Here you find rolling fields of  wheat, a paintball field and us liveleaguing. Will young and fast Take Over finally take gold, with the last rounds teachings under belt? Will Cyclone continue to reign supreme? Or will the others show their true colors. You will see it here! Games start at 9:00 Saturday with League. On Sunday Div 2 plays the morning and Div 1 the evening halfs.

Again we will do a little bit pick and choose what we will cover. This time it will be League, Div 1, Div 2. We will try something new again. I will live-blog Cyclone League games and medal matches for league. My prose is often compared to those of Harlequin books, so we’ll see how it goes. We’ll also push some videos to the site (quicktime plugin required, sorry).

Please answer a quick survey, it’ll take a moment and we will customise our work next round based on answers:

SPBL Ikaalinen 2011 – a tough start for the season

It’s already been a month after the first leg of the SPBL Finnish Championship League, sorry about that – we had a bit of a landscaping project after the tournament, and a sudden outbreak of summer weather made dating a laptop the last in line for things to do..  Still a day left before the second tournament though!

Coming into the season 2011 after winning the championship last year, we knew there was no easy ride to victory as we would be the ones to beat this season. We did a punishing (but voluntary) physical fitness program over the winter months – many of the guys lost quite a bit of weight and gained endurance. After some time off from the markers we begun the weekly trips to Sparta Reball, some 160Km from Helsinki to blast tons of reps and drive back home again. As the spring progressed, we begun outdoor practises at our own field, grinding at the sandpit up to three times a week for a month before the first tournament – only to have our asses handed to us in the two first games.

Talk about a rude awakening – three more prelim games to go. Continue reading ‘SPBL Ikaalinen 2011 – a tough start for the season’ »
