Dynasty wins Red Legion in finals and PSP Galveston.

Dynasty takes the title winning Boston Red Legion in the finals 7-2. After impressive scores in prelim games and loosing only one match to Boston Red Legion, Dynasty gets an rematch and pulls it off in the finals. I don’t think that many of us would have predicted Dynasty winning the first event but new PSP rule changes have for sure made an difference in the Pro bracket. Congrats to Dynasty and PSP season looks to be quite interesting for 2011.

Preliminary scores from APPA

APPA doesn’t yet have official semifinal scores up but in semifinals met Dynasty vs. Infamous and
Boston Red Leg vs. Tampa Bay Damage.

Monkey with a Gun has already uploaded Dynasty vs. Boston Red Legion preliminary game to YouTube
and hopefully we will see rest of the games later.

PSP Saturday Pro Scores and Full Game to View – Edmonton Impact vs. Chattanooga CEP

Looks like new PSP changes have made games really tight with close scores, at-least for the first day. With only four teams advancing to Sunday semifinals only Aftershock and CEP seem to be out of the race.

Whats your bet for top four on Sunday?

People had spotted earlier at the event cameras being placed on the poles so thanks to Monkey with a Gun we have now some really good game footage also online. Big hand to Monkey and check out full game with Edmonton Impact vs. Chattanooga CEP including commentary from Matty Marshal.

NPPL gets on TV, umh no on webcast…

So NPPL was after its Golden calf the TV and ended up with subscription/pay-per-view webcast on ESPN3.com.  If you live in US and happen to have ESPN trough your cable or ISP provider you can view ESPN3 for free. As for us living in Europe there seems to be the option to pay 15EUR for online event viewing at ESPN3.com. What remains to be seen is if NPPL will be still interesting enough in peoples mind to pay for the service. If the cost would be 10EUR for NPPL then maybe I would consider and if it would have been for PSP then yes for sure for high quality webcast.

NPPL press release.

PSP Releases Galvestone Field Layout

Interesting field layout to say the least. Center-back bunker laying an good amount up front and only able to lock T-bag center fifty bump from there. Lots of options for snake breaks and easy to bump forward. Wouldn’t want to be slow and out of shape on this field.

PSP Puts Boots On and Starts The Season March 11 – 13 in Texas

Galvestone Beach - but note the event location

PSP sends out details of their first event with some really cool looking beach pictures while promoting the location for the first even. Wow is PSP trying to make hapen something like NPPL
and Huntington Beach? No sadly no beach play. When you read PSP event description trough you will find out that the event will be hold at Galveston Island Paintball. While taking a look at Google Map its evident the event will be located on the sidestreets of Galvestone and not at the more busy beach and hotel area. Propobly bigest postivie thing with Galvestone event is its timing with spring break making it easier for everyone at school to attend the event.

Amtrak Classifies Paintball Markers as Firearms in U.S

As of tomorrow the 15th December U.S Railroad operator Amtrak allows unloaded firearms  to be transported on train if pre checked and given at least 24h notice to Amtrak before departure. Requiring firearms to be transported in locked hard-boxes and pre checked sounds reasonable but now both paintball markers and airsoft markers get the same treatment and classification. Sure Amtrak doesn’t have luggage checks when you board so you can carry your gear if you want but what happens if an official decides to check your bag and follow the issue to the letter?

Once again we see how paintball equipment gets thrown in the same bunch as firearms. Even if Amtrak won’t pursue its customers with paintball markers its something that can easily carry ow-er to other similar circumstances and regulations.

You can find full Amtrak press release here or keep reading below.

PSP Format Changes For 2011, What Will MS Do?

After speculations started going around the web about 2011 PSP format changes PSP released following information today:

Adjustments to PSP RaceTo Format and 2011 Season

The PSP is taking steps to make it possible for talented players of all sizes, ages and pay grades to compete nationally. Currently, smaller and wealthier players have an edge in the PSP. The field layouts have not been friendly to larger players, and the teams with heavy financial backing can afford to practice the field layout every weekend. It’s time to make sure the most talented players are the ones excelling in the PSP, not just the most fortunate.

After speaking with many current and past players of the PSP as well as our Master Sponsors, we have decided to make the following changes:

· Lengthen the field 10 feet per side (Total size will now be 120 x 170 feet)
· Eliminate Pit-side coaching and communication
· Field Layouts will not be released prior to the events
· Adjust position of bunkers to better suit a wider variety of players
· Adjust classification system for D1 – Pro, now that the Semi-Pro division is absent

We’re taking the game in a direction that will include more players, as opposed to excluding them as has been done in the past. We need to make sure players can still compete when they turn 30 or are not in a financial position to practice every weekend. We feel this is the right thing to do for our customers and our business as well as the sport and industry.

The PSP is here for the long run. These steps are in an effort to include more people in the game, while still making sure the ones with the best paintball skills win. More information on the 2011 season will be released in the weeks to come at http://www.pspevents.com !

Old Finnish paintball store closing down.

Its always sad to see fields or stores closing down especially on such a small market like what we have here in Finland. Cool Games (Diehard) and people behind it where one of the driving factors to push tournament paintball forward in Finland. People with Cool Games worked for the passion for paintball but unfortunately working at your free time just for the love of the game doesn’t bring the bread to the table. Helsinki Cyclone would like to thank for the years we had together and all the support during that time. If you are looking for some cheap paintball items at closeout prices now is your chance as everything goes from the store this weekend. Please read below details in Finnish.
