2016 season was a strong season domesticly with us winning both SPBL League and Division 1. Season 2016 was a season to save some resources and skipping tournaments abroad. Our end of season goal was trip NXL World Cup playing a format we hadn’t done in a few years. Learning curve was steap and end result wasn’t what we expected but we had some good games and gained some good experience how we need to prepare for possible 2017 return.
2017 season will see us returning to European tournament scene with us making comeback to the Millennium Series at semiprofessional level. In our roster we will have some new and old faces so it will be quite an exciting season.
Throughout the years Helsinki Cyclone has travelled the paintball world using all transport modes possible. One of the meanest and also on of the most memorable would be the trip to Paris 7-man world cup with a car in one and a half days. That’s 2400km and it has a ferry on the way, do the math. That trip could be labeled with a Finnish paintball phrase “fastly and efficiently”… And yes, many of you know we hate that sort of trips.
Occasionally though they have their advantages and their own twisted sort of fun. This was one of those times. The Iceball arena cup was to be held in Moscow on the third weekend of December and our good friends theField Fighter boys asked if we were interested in a joint team effort for the tournament. This would not only mean that we’d get to participate in the tournament but also see Moscow with a someonewho speaks the language… Surprise surprise, we said yes.
Here is the first of a series of former and current Cyclone member interviews that we will be doing.
Name: Pertti Berg although everybody calls me Raffe
Years played: I’ve been playing since the early 90’s so that makes it something like 20 years
now… Feeling kinda old here… Tournament paint I started somewhere around 97 and been
playing in Finland and all around Europe ever since.
PSP Galveston Island Open suffered from severe weather storm that caused moving most PRO games to Phoenix Open. You can read up what PSP staff had to deal with over at VFTD .
Video feed worked quite well from the new PaintballAccess.com portal with quality footage and commentary. Hopefully Pro games show up with good quality on youtube as before but until then here are Saturday Pro games from the live feed.
Dynasty takes the title winning Boston Red Legion in the finals 7-2. After impressive scores in prelim games and loosing only one match to Boston Red Legion, Dynasty gets an rematch and pulls it off in the finals. I don’t think that many of us would have predicted Dynasty winning the first event but new PSP rule changes have for sure made an difference in the Pro bracket. Congrats to Dynasty and PSP season looks to be quite interesting for 2011.
Preliminary scores from APPA
APPA doesn’t yet have official semifinal scores up but in semifinals met Dynasty vs. Infamous and
Boston Red Leg vs. Tampa Bay Damage.
Monkey with a Gun has already uploaded Dynasty vs. Boston Red Legion preliminary game to YouTube
and hopefully we will see rest of the games later.
Looks like new PSP changes have made games really tight with close scores, at-least for the first day. With only four teams advancing to Sunday semifinals only Aftershock and CEP seem to be out of the race.
Whats your bet for top four on Sunday?
People had spotted earlier at the event cameras being placed on the poles so thanks to Monkey with a Gun we have now some really good game footage also online. Big hand to Monkey and check out full game with Edmonton Impact vs. Chattanooga CEP including commentary from Matty Marshal.
So NPPL was after its Golden calf the TV and ended up with subscription/pay-per-view webcast on ESPN3.com. If you live in US and happen to have ESPN trough your cable or ISP provider you can view ESPN3 for free. As for us living in Europe there seems to be the option to pay 15EUR for online event viewing at ESPN3.com. What remains to be seen is if NPPL will be still interesting enough in peoples mind to pay for the service. If the cost would be 10EUR for NPPL then maybe I would consider and if it would have been for PSP then yes for sure for high quality webcast.
Interesting field layout to say the least. Center-back bunker laying an good amount up front and only able to lock T-bag center fifty bump from there. Lots of options for snake breaks and easy to bump forward. Wouldn’t want to be slow and out of shape on this field.
