Playing with the Big Boys

It’s again time to start packing the good old Explorer and prepare for a tournament weekend, as we have done so many times before. Most of us have seen countless tournaments on various levels of competition in Finland, Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe. A handful of us have even made the trip across the great water to play the official PSP Race-to format. Still, when the opportunity to participate in the Paintball Swedish Masters in Uppsala, we took it in a heartbeat. The Open division offers a team list that is something like playing a round of golf with Tiger Woods..

Yeah, right. Let’s leave Tiger to play with his balls, and stick with the sport we know. For us, paintball has always been far more than what goes on inside the nets, that’s why we travel and make the sacrifices it calls for. The life of the travelling man is something each of us enjoys, and the memories and experiences will last a lifetime. Still, amongst those memories live those special ones that always seem to shine the brightest and are most vivid in colour, that always rise from exceptional circumstances or success. Remembering two destroyed Malaga tournaments, A soaked UK Millennium, podium finishes, your first ever victory. And playing against the best.

The team List:

  • London Nexus
  • Chilli Peppers Riga
  • Stockholm Joy
  • Oslo Menace
  • DOW Brutal Deluxe
  • Mashive Attack
  • Drammen Solid
  • Helsinki Cyclone

The Open division in Uppsala is filled with teams that are the finest Europe has to offer, and we want it. As Thomas Taylor would put it, beatdown city. Every bit of skill and ability needs to be focused every second of every point, and it still will not be enough. We need to go much beyond ourselves, and that is what we want. Unfortunately, due to one surgery and some issues caused by the delayed arrival home from Malaga, we are traveling light, with 5 players and no staff. Luckily, there are also other Finnish teams in the tournament, PPW from the capital city region and RumaQ from Oulu. The others will play on sunday, so we just need to hope that they are not suffering too much from the aftermath of the cruise boat fare.. Nonetheless, the Scandinavian brothers have always helped us whenever and wherever in need, so  I bet we’ll be fine.

Oh, and there will be pictures. Plenty of them, as our Scandinavian media partner Bullitproof Monkey will be covering the event! Cheers!

Helsinki Cyclone has made it to Uppsala and the venue looks good for Swedish SM. Team will be having their first game against Joy and after that Solid, DOW and Massive. On the rooster are Jii, Joel, Kim, Raffe and Sibban.

First game 0-5 lost against Joy Division. Cyclone didnt have the chanse to read the field in the morning as they drove straight fromt the harbor to the site and it was also the first time seeing and playing on Bitburg layout. When the game went on points started to get tighter and Joy had to start playing for real with some hard fought points. Team is feeling confident and eagerly waiting for the next game.

In second game Solid played really aggressive winning 5-1. At third game against DOW we where down to already 0-3 but tied up to 3-3 after witch the game ended to us with an loss 3-5. Everyone in team is really excited and learning allot. Atmosphere is wonderful and last game is against MASH. Hopefully team can push it at the last game with five guys on the rooster.

The last game was pretty much a disaster for us, the MASH guys managed to find our packs with their shooters straight off the bat, leaving us to struggle with the resulting 1-4-1′s. A strong team will capitalize on that quicker than we even reacted to the call. Overall, a great tournament and I will do a summary piece later. A HUGE round of thanks to everyone involved!
