As flight got canceled trough most of Europe allot of teams and players missed Malaga. CPL team Chilli Peppers had their connecting flight trough Copenhagen where they got stuck when air space closed down. Chilli Peppers decided no matter what to get to Malaga if they just wouldn’t have to do it by walking. Continue reading ‘Chilli Peppers Malaga Travel Story’ »
MS 2010 Malaga Friday Games Recap
Wireless at our hotel was down the whole day yesterday so had to wait with some on location updates and pictures.
Our first game started pretty late on Friday with some natural light available. Division 1. field has the setup where netting goes up with an inflatable cage with the purpose of quicker take-down and setup. The start for Division 1 field was supposed to be delayed only 1-2h but games ended up starting for us 5.5h delayed from schedule.

Malaga Fin.
So malaga comes to a end for Div 1. Yesterdays storm caused organization to cancel all games that day. And of course the weather cleared up in the evening, but the decision was done. Today as promised another decision was made and Div 1 and SPL games are moved to Germany. I wonder where I’ve heard this before? Now is the time for Millennium to think about the future of Malaga in spring time. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
M5, Div2 and some CPL games will be played today.
Next step for our guys is to think, how in hell they are going to get home. The flight curfew is set to continue through monday in Northern Europe. The Volcano continues to spew ash, so this might continue for a long time. Maybe a flight to Germany from there bus to the ferry to Finland. And everything from their own pockets. Well we have to see if the team can compensate somehow. But now it’s probably a good idea to drink a few, and relax for a moment, before the Great Journey starts.
Saturday
So what’s next, earthquake? Tsunami? Jesus appearing on middle of CPL field? It seems Malaga ain’t getting no lenience from the higher powers. Day started with a thunder storm over Malaga. And it’s set to continue over the weekend. The forecasts seem to be changing by the minute, but I expect nothing good out of this by now.
Games are maybe starting again and our boys are set to play against Empire Venice at some point. Hopefully Stark will get his report on yesterdays happenings sent to me soon, so that I can pass all the juicy details to you. But one thing is for sure, our boys are in high spirits and having time of their lives.
As we are short on players, we got help from Sugar daddys on our second game. They came and helped us on the pits. Thanks boys, we owe you one! This is a case in point why Millennium is the best place to play ball in Europe. Even though teams play to win, they still help each other out! Ofcourse Scandinavians are always close, but this has happend with other nationalities also. This is what our sport needs, the sense that you want to win, but not with other guys handicapped. We will try to put our effort to enforce this on our own part.
Update. Sam just texted that “Maybe” they are not playing today. This is getting rediculous
Update2. So no games today. 7AM tomorrow the organization will tell us, if any games will be played. huoh.
Friday continued:Scores
Okay, first game is done with Sugar Daddies from Sweden… Lost 4 to 3… I won’t try to save our grace, but still I think this is a good score considering. They are playing with flood lights on, so interesting times… I’m currently getting drunk with our favorite criminal Nysty and the unnamed player (Yo-L) who missed his flights. And we are envious of our guys there playing in the dark.
Update: the second game with Copenhagen Synergy went our way 4-0. We (both malaga and Helsinki) are in the groove… Hopefully.
Straight from Horses Mouth
I got a short report from Raffe at ground zero.
Morning brought us CPL and SPL games on the standard fields. Div 1&2′s special Millennium concept fields weren’t built. Organization said that they would be up by 12:00 and games could start 2 hours late. Our boys left from the fields at 15:30 and they had the Div 1 field almost ready. At that moment Div 2 field was filled, but laying around like 10 strippers at a playboy party, all fckd up… Teams had spent almost 6 hours at the fields, ready to play. Grim described the mood at the pits.
Our boys are now at the hotel bar, drinking their allowance (one beer). After that it’s back to the fields to see if the games have begun. There is talk that div1 games will continue on SPL/CPL fields after they’ve played their set. Only it is scheduled to be at 20:00 and the sun sets around nine. Raffe thinks that there’ll be no games here today.
Mood in our team is great according to Raffe. I think that they are used to this sh#t. They spent their day looking at the games and chilling. Ofcourse the pits are on the spectator side, so visibility is like trying to find the Charlie in the treeline. There’s no netting on the seaside, so maybe the field is now more wind resistant.
Dye did their job as always and gave us our new shirts for 2010. The new Dye blue is more like azure, but we still bleed black and blue.
Malaga Friday
So the games have started on two fields. Two more should be up in couple of hours. Uncomfirmed information (i.e. Rumors) says that pro teams have serious problems: Nexus has one player, Shockwave none. Chili Peppers are on their way.
Our first game will be around 16:30/16:50.
I’ll update this post and Facebook as information comes in.
Update(ish): No news, games are running no idea if on time.
Update(2): OK so DIV 1 games didn’t start earlier, sorry about that. Div 1 games are 5 hours late. We were supposed to play at 16:50 with Sugar daddies and 19:50 with Copenhagen Synergy. I guess this day is lost for us.
Update(3): Its now 17:20 over here in Malaga and 2nd game has started on Div 1. fields so by our calculation we wont have any games today.
Pictures from The Site
Here’s some pics from the site, provided by Sam. We have 6 out of 7 guys at Malaga… One missed his flight by sleeping. He went to the airport and got on another flight, which broke down and had to return to Helsinki. Talk about bad luck (and a little bit of stupidity). Now he’s hanging at Helsinki airport (still serving) waiting for his flight.

Millennium Series 2010 Malaga – Thursday
As everyone can remember 2009 season didn’t start for Millennium Series that well in Malaga as the whole event was canceled due to strong wind. Having strong wind and stormy weather for this time of year in Fuengirola is quite typical, Now we are here again for 2010 and if weather is tomorrow morning anything like today the event will be an replay from last year. As to what did the organizers do things different for this year. Player areas are now moved to walkway side to prevent pits floating to the sea. Too bad spectators have now no way of following games on the sideline and the sea is still reaching snake side bringin in miscellaneous crap all the way to the field. We can only cross our fingers and hope for the sea to be allot calmer tomorrow. Continue reading ‘Millennium Series 2010 Malaga – Thursday’ »
Malaga Mayhem
It seems that this years Millennium Malaga might just be a bigger disaster than last year. Sam just reported that there is a storm in Malaga, that seems to be even windier than last years. Weather forecasts say that it should be over by Friday morning, but rain will keep the whole week-end. Combine that with our own little Pinatubo in Iceland which is shutting down the air traffic in Northern Europe. Some of the teams and referee’s are on their way and will be affected by the Flight situation.
Will this be another blow to already suffering Millennium Series? Will they play any games? Will our boys be hammered out of their minds on Friday? Is it 2012 already? We will keep you posted on all the gritty details as they come available, here and on Facebook!
Now that we have the dramatic yellow newspaper headlines done; I’ll send all my strength to my boys in black and blue. Like I’ve said, we are at our best when everything fails.
Update: Reporting from site is mixed. Some say everything is going ahead and the wind isn’t bad. One thing is propably sure; Rumormill will keep feeding itself throughout the weekend.
Update Part Deux: Weather is clearing. Here’s me, hoping that the games get on tomorrow. SPL is loosing at least four teams (thanx Wil @ Paintballer-forums.com), because of the flights. No idea how many Div 1 teams. For once I’m happy to live up here, flights have to be flown early to get anywhere.
