JT Sports going belly up?

Again, we feed off the great stuff View from the Deadbox diggs up – you guys should all subscribe to that.

There has been a few notions that Wal-Mart would not be distributing JT products anymore, and  as JT has received over half of its sales through Wal-Mart, the company suffers a hard blow. Hard enough that it might even be forced to close down. For us older guys, this is really sad bit of gossip as JT and Scott were the first really big equipment manufacturers in the sport and were big contributors in the initial growth of paintball.

Strange Findings

Remember G.I Milsim, the joint venture of Richmond Italia and the Gardner brothers? Yep, me too. The funny thing here is that G.I Milsim doesn’t seem to remember it. If you go to http://www.gimilsim.com/company/bios you can only find the biography – or bio – of Richmond Italia. No plural necessary, or did they forget to fix that when they REMOVED the Gardner brothers from the homepage? Funny place, the internet.

Fedorov is back to Russian Legion!

RL general manager Alexander Tarando on RL Webpages:

After the end of the successfull 2009 season several pro US and Euro players contacted our team about joining RL in 2010 season. Looked through all of this advices and taken into consideration real team needs RL have decided to give a chanse to our old teammate Konstantin Fedorov. This decision wasn’t easy. The club counsil has taken this decision by the majority of voices of players and coaches.

Giving Kostia the chance, we understand that he is our old team player and knows the inside rules of the team and specifics of training proces. If he could get into it again it will be positive for the team and himself too. That is why we would like to wish Kostia goodluck about getting into RL main squad again.

RL Site author commment:

Under my opinion taken Kostia back in RL makes our 2010 roster even more stronger then it is right now. Also we make our roster safe about keey players be injured.

Plus I would like to admit that by this decision we are making our team more interesting for sponsors because chances of not good season are very small because of RL 2010 roster.

Interesting to see what US pro teams can do against Russian Legion. Fedorov takes 3 guns at field = 5on2 = Russians win has been confirmed. Plus word on the street has the Russians going back to a Russian-only roster.

Go Russians!

Smart Parts situation clarified by Richmond Italia

On Monday’s VFTD post Baca Loco pointed his readers to a very, very interesting interview of Richmond Italia and Tom Cole (GI Milsim and Kingman, respectively) by Blast Radius Woodsball Podcast. The 1hr 15minute podcast is an extremely educational bit on a lot of the controversy surrounding the .50 cal and the rest of the most debated issues of recent months. One of the major statements that can be extracted from the interview is Richmond Italia’s clarification of the state of Smart Parts.

ASTM revises standard proposition for ball weights!

Based on the article and discussion on 68caliber.com, the ASTM standards for maximum ball weights for different calibers have been revised. Mike Lukas, Chairman  of the ASTM sub-committee for paintball posted a very good response explaining the decision-making process in forming the ASTM standards – the full text can be found here. I really suggest you read the whole article, as it seems that the weights that were initially posted were early inputs to the standardization process. However, the wording of the outline has now been revised to be more accurate in proportions of the weight to the ball volume.
